Event Background
The OPEN CME Challenge 2025 is a national video-making competition that centers on the performance of an open right hemicolectomy—a foundational procedure in colorectal surgery. Organized by the Philippine Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (PSCRS) a, this event invites surgeons and trainees across the Philippines to showcase their operative skill, technique, and educational approach through high-quality surgical videos. The contest aims to highlight the continued relevance of open surgery in an era dominated by minimally invasive approaches.
This event was conceptualized not only to assess surgical competence but also to promote best practices and peer-based learning among Filipino surgeons. Through creative and instructive video submissions, participants can demonstrate their personal approach to open right hemicolectomy, from incision to anastomosis, while emphasizing critical safety steps and oncologic principles. The competition also fosters healthy academic exchange and encourages participants to refine their operative techniques through self-review and public presentation.
